Volvo ocean race trip
Friday 9th march 2018
Bus ride
Woosh, everyone fast walks (runs) to the back of the bus, to try and get the seat they want. I got lucky with a window seat next to Manaia. As I repeatedly try to solve my Rubik's cube, some boys a couple rows back starts playing loud music, and almost everyone at the back of the bus starts singing. I don't. Once we get there we are greeted by a group of volunteers one of them came up to us and introduced himself as john, he is our guide for today.
Maritime museum
Firstly we went through the maritime museum and looked at all the boats and exhibits we got to see the old new Zealand sailing boat. as I walk around I notice that most of the interactive exhibits are not working, I am saddened by this because I really like interactive things like this.
The globe
Now we are walking to “the globe” it is a big dome shaped building. As we walk in we are greeted by a giant projector and rows of seats, as we sit down a lady walks out onto the stage area and starts talking to us about the ocean and plastic and wisdom the mascot.
The stage
After that we go to have morning tea at the performance stage, no one is performing but they have a live radio playing. We sit down on some super comfy bean bags. And eat our morning tea whilst talking to our friends.
Boat room
As we walk into the boat room we see this yacht that has been cut in half. We get to walk through it, and see where the sailors eat, sleep and poop. I lie on one of the beds and it is quite comfy.
Volvo experience
Now we are heading to the Volvo headquarters. Once inside I see a photo booth and head over to it to get a photo, say cheese!, and then I keep walking round until I get stopped by a wall, along that wall I see Mr Edwards and two other kids playing against each other in a quiz. Then I see some people playing with VR headsets, it looks really interesting. I also see a mock-up Volvo luxury car. I sit in the driver seat (I notice that the steering wheel is on the wrong side) and mess around with the controls.
Sailing
Now we are going sailing it looks really fun. We are put into groups of four/five and then we walk down to a boat and get on. Then we are told its a water fight, we are all surprised cas no one told us so none of us brought a change of clothes. But it was heaps of fun.
MKR/lunch
Now we are having lunch on the stairs next to where we went sailing. Suddenly some of us are rushing to stand up and walk somewhere, I look and see that they are filming an episode of MKR. I quickly stand up and fast walk (more like running) over to the filming. I stand in the background trying to get in shot as much as possible.
Team bases
As we walk through the team bases which are made out of shipping containers we collect the posters that they have out for anyone to have, I tried to get all the posters but at the last team base they had run out of their posters.
